What is wearable art anyway?
April 2nd, 2007Let me start by welcoming you once again to Madona Cole Originals ‘Let’s Talk Wearables’ blog. I am glad to be able to finally get this area of my website off the ground. Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to re-launch my wearable art business, and even follow up with an all-day extended hour public sale. I am most grateful to all who supported my business venture by attending the gala, and those who took time out to get an upclose and personal view and experience of the latest madona cole originals pieces. While I am at it, I cannot leave out the behind-the-scenes help I received in making things come together. I find it necessary to make a mention of this because from where I am sitting, I strongly believe that a business of any sort simply cannot florish without the support of well-wishers; be they friends, relatives, business experts or neighborhood businesses.
As you can imagine, activities of recent weeks placed me in touch with a lot of people from all walks of life. It was my suspicion though, that only a cross-section of the people I encountered had a full understanding of what goes into the creation of wearable art. There were others who were not too sure what they were looking at and thus could not fully appreciate the value of my pieces. There were also some who simply stayed away!
In light of my observations, I find it only fitting for me to start off by asking you to respond to what the term ‘wearable art ‘ means to you. Please respond in terms of aesthetics, value, what you would be willing to spend etc. I am also extending an invitation to other wearable artists to please use this opportunity to register their input and share their experiences with my guests.
